School Day Experiences

Harper’s Reading Curriculum - Expeditionary Learning

  • EL Education is aligned to the vision of EVSC to empower all students to thrive in life by providing all the tools teachers need to make a difference in their students’ learning with proven success.
  • EL’s daily lessons build upon each other, setting students up to create amazing work and become experts on various topics. Please know that your child’s daily-student work/activities may be delayed in coming home because their work is continually needed to refer back to or be built upon. Please get in touch with your child’s teacher if you have more questions about this topic.

Harper’s Math Curriculum - Eureka Squared

  • Eureka Math²™ is a revolutionary math program designed to ensure that students move beyond rote memorization to build enduring math knowledge through the intentional integration of digital resources and a focused approach to encouraging student discourse. Eureka Math² helps students establish a foundational understanding of mathematics (the why) rather than only relying on procedural skills (the how), to better prepare them for college and career.
  • Teachers will see students strengthening reasoning and critical-thinking skills that students can apply to solve real-world problems and that can be applied to many real-world situations.

Related Arts:

  • All grade levels will participate in a daily Related Arts class consisting of Art, Music, or Physical Education. Throughout the week, students will rotate throughout these classes with their classmates.  Grades 3rd - 5th will receive grades in these subject areas.

Lunch Periods:

  • All homerooms will have approximately 25-minute lunch time to eat.  Homerooms will transition to the cafeteria to enjoy their lunches there.

Recess:

  • All grade levels will receive a 30-minute recess. Each homeroom will have designated play areas around the Harper campus.
  • Staffing and playground supervision will monitor and encourage safe active movement and healthy socialization. During inclement weather, students will have indoor recess within their homerooms. They will have opportunities to play and socialize within their personal learning spaces.
